Bethany sat on the airport bench, clutching her phone tightly as travelers rushed past her. The loudspeaker echoed flight announcements across the terminal, but Bethany barely heard any of it.

Her heart was racing.

Just minutes earlier, she had received a message that completely changed everything.

Her phone buzzed again.

It was a text from an unknown number.

Bethany hesitated for a moment before opening it.

Inside was a single photo.

Her hands began to tremble as she zoomed in.

The picture showed Larry… Brooke… and Destiny standing together near a beach. Behind them were palm trees and a bright blue ocean. A sign in the background read:

“Welcome to Puerto Rico.”

Bethany’s eyes widened.

“What…? No… this can’t be real,” she whispered.

Her breathing became heavy.

Just yesterday, Larry had told her he was canceling the trip because of the family drama and the custody situation. He promised they would all stay home and deal with things together.

Finally Larry spoke quietly.

Bethany’s eyes filled with tears.

“So your solution was to run away with them and leave me behind?”

“That’s not fair,” Larry said.

“Not fair? Larry, I just got served court papers for Brooke’s custody, and you disappear to Puerto Rico without even telling me!”

Larry sounded frustrated now.

“We were going to tell you later.”
