Bethany didn’t plan to confront Lynette that night.

She found out by accident.

Larry’s phone lit up on the kitchen counter while he was in the shower. One message. One name. One sentence that flipped Bethany’s world upside down.

Lynette: “I’ll book the Montana tickets tonight. Thank you for choosing us.”

Bethany’s hands went cold.

Montana.

The same place Larry had sworn he was “done with.” The same place Lynette’s family lived. The same place Bethany had begged him not to go—especially now.

When Larry came downstairs, Bethany was already waiting. Her arms were crossed. Her eyes were blazing.

“You’re going to Montana?” she asked quietly.

Larry froze. One second too long.

“With Lynette?” she added.

He sighed. “Bethany, please don’t start.”

That’s when she lost it.

“Oh, I’m not starting,” Bethany snapped. “I’m finishing what you two started behind my back.”

Lynette appeared in the doorway, pretending she’d just walked in. Bethany turned on her instantly.

“You convinced him, didn’t you?” Bethany shouted. “You couldn’t wait to get him out of this house.”

Lynette raised her hands. “Bethany, calm down. This isn’t about you.”

Bethany laughed—sharp and bitter. “Not about me? You’re carrying his baby, living under my roof, and now you’re planning family trips like I don’t exist?”

Larry stepped between them. “This trip is for the baby.”

“No,” Bethany screamed. “It’s for you to play house with her!”

Lynette’s voice hardened. “I need support. Montana is where I feel safe.”

Bethany took a step closer, her voice shaking with rage. “You feel safe destroying my marriage?”

The room went silent.

Larry looked at Lynette, then back at Bethany. “She asked me to go. And I said yes.”

Those words hit Bethany harder than any slap.

“You didn’t even fight for us,” Bethany whispered.

Lynette crossed her arms. “You can’t keep him just because you’re married to him.”

Bethany pointed toward the stairs. “You listen to me. You may have convinced him to follow you to Montana—but don’t mistake that for winning. Because when he leaves, he takes everything we had with him.”

Larry tried to speak, but Bethany cut him off.

“Go,” she said coldly. “Go build your little fantasy. But when you come back, don’t expect me to still be here.”

Lynette’s face flickered with something close to guilt—but Bethany didn’t care.
