Bethany convinced Brooke not to go to New Orleans with Larry 😱

“The Trip That Never Happened: How Bethany Stopped Brooke From Going to New Orleans with Larry”

It was supposed to be a dream trip.

Brooke had been buzzing about it for weeks. A weekend getaway to New Orleans with Larry — her situationship of six months. He wasn’t quite her boyfriend (he never liked labels), but they’d been inseparable since spring. Dinner dates, flirty texts, long nights where he’d talk about his “trust issues” like it was some kind of personality trait. Still, Brooke was convinced she was getting through to him. That this trip could be the turning point. The soft launch, finally.

Enter: Bethany.

Bethany had been Brooke’s best friend since high school. Ride-or-die. Knew each other’s worst mistakes and deepest secrets. The kind of friend who could tell when something was off — even through a screen. So when Brooke sent her a mirror selfie from her suitcase-strewn bedroom with the caption, “Almost ready for NOLA 💃🏻✈️,” Bethany didn't reply with a fire emoji. She replied:
“Can we talk?”

Brooke didn’t think much of it at first. Bethany had always been protective — she didn’t get Larry. Said he was vague, emotionally unavailable, and “too old to be that mysterious.” But Brooke had made her peace with Larry’s quirks. Or so she thought.

They met at a coffee shop that night — neutral ground. Bethany came in hot. No small talk.

“Don’t go.”

Brooke blinked. “Don’t go where?”

“To New Orleans. With Larry.”

“What? Why not?”

Bethany sighed and reached into her bag, pulling out her phone. “I wasn’t going to say anything, because I thought maybe I was being paranoid. But you need to see this.”

She turned the screen to Brooke.

It was a screenshot. A DM. Larry — her Larry — messaging another woman on Instagram. The same flirty tone he used with Brooke. Worse: the timestamp was from two nights ago. While he was at Brooke’s apartment. Watching Netflix with her.

Brooke stared at the screen, heartbeat thudding in her ears. “No. That’s not— He wouldn’t—”

Bethany swiped again. More screenshots. A Venmo payment to the same girl labeled “🍸last night was wild!” A photo posted to a close friends story — not Brooke’s — of Larry at a rooftop bar, arm around someone very much not her.

“This isn’t a one-off,” Bethany said softly. “He’s playing you, B.”

Brooke sat back, stunned. The flight was in nine hours.

“I know you want to believe he’s different,” Bethany continued. “But you’re not going to New Orleans for fun — you’re going hoping he’ll finally choose you. And I’m telling you right now, he already hasn’t.”

That hit like a punch.

Brooke didn’t cry. Not right away. She just stared at her chai latte like it might offer answers. But deep down, something clicked. Something ugly, but honest.

He hadn’t confirmed the hotel until yesterday. He had been acting cold when she brought up making plans past the weekend. And that message… that message was from two nights ago.

Nine hours later, her suitcase was unpacked.
And her phone was on Do Not Disturb.

Larry texted once — “Hey, where are you?” — and then didn’t follow up.

He still went to New Orleans.
Brooke stayed home.

And Bethany? She brought over pizza, wine, and a bottle of glittery pink nail polish.

“You dodged a bullet,” she said, clinking her glass against Brooke’s.
Brooke finally smiled. “No. You helped me dodge it.”

The trip didn’t happen — but something else did: Brooke remembered who really had her back.
