Bethany finds out That Brooke & Isaich Are Boyfriend & Girlfriend

The cafeteria buzzed with noise — laughter, chatter, and the clatter of trays. But for Bethany, everything felt muffled, like the world had gone underwater.

She stared across the room, heart hammering in her chest.

There they were. Brooke and Isaich.

Sitting side by side. Smiling. Laughing. His arm brushing against hers in that easy, familiar way that Bethany knew all too well.

Her best friend.
Her crush.
Together.

It didn’t make sense. Brooke had told her she wasn’t interested in Isaich. “He’s cute, but not my type,” she’d said with a laugh just two weeks ago. Bethany believed her — why wouldn’t she? Brooke had always been the one she confided in, the one she trusted with everything, especially her feelings for Isaich.

And Isaich… he had been different lately. Less talkative around her. Texting less. Always “busy.”

Now she knew why.

“Beth! You good?” a voice snapped her back to reality. It was Lila, her other friend, sliding into the seat across from her.

Bethany blinked, quickly forcing a smile. “Yeah. Just… tired.”

Lila followed her gaze toward the far table and frowned. “Oh.” Her tone softened. “You saw them?”

Bethany nodded, her throat tightening.

“They’ve been hanging out a lot,” Lila said gently. “I didn’t want to say anything until I knew for sure, but… I think they’re together now.”

Bethany’s heart cracked a little more. “How long?”

“About a week. Maybe two.”

Two weeks. The exact time Brooke had told her not to bother texting Isaich because he “wasn’t worth it.”

Bethany swallowed hard, blinking back tears. “Guess I got my answer.”

That afternoon, she couldn’t focus in class. Every note she tried to take blurred in front of her eyes. All she could see was Isaich’s smile — the same one that used to make her stomach flutter — now aimed at someone else.

When the final bell rang, she didn’t even wait for Lila. She went straight home, locked herself in her room, and let the tears fall.

She scrolled through old messages with Brooke. Late-night calls. Inside jokes. The dozens of times Brooke had reassured her that Isaich was “just a guy” and that someone better would come along.

And the photos — one in particular — from a party three weeks ago. Bethany, smiling between Brooke and Isaich, completely unaware that the people beside her were already starting to look at each other differently.

That betrayal hurt more than anything.

By Monday morning, she had decided she needed answers.

She spotted Brooke at her locker, laughing with another group of girls. Brooke’s long blonde hair fell over her shoulder, perfectly curled like always. When she saw Bethany, her face lit up.

“Hey, B! I was gonna text you this weekend—”

Bethany cut her off. “Are you and Isaich together?”

The hallway went silent for a moment. Brooke’s smile faltered. “What?”

“You heard me.”

Brooke’s cheeks flushed. “Who told you that?”

“It doesn’t matter,” Bethany said, her voice trembling. “Just tell me the truth.”

Brooke looked away. “We didn’t mean for it to happen, okay? It just… did. We were hanging out after that study group, and—”

“And what?” Bethany snapped. “You just forgot that I liked him?”

Brooke’s eyes widened. “It wasn’t like that! I didn’t want to hurt you, Beth. I swear. I was going to tell you, but I didn’t know how.”

Bethany let out a bitter laugh. “You didn’t know how? You tell me everything — except when it’s about him?”

“Please,” Brooke said softly. “You have to understand. Isaich and I—”

“I don’t want to understand,” Bethany interrupted, her voice breaking. “You knew how I felt, Brooke. And you still went behind my back.”

She turned to leave, her heart pounding in her ears, but Brooke grabbed her arm. “Bethany, wait—”

Bethany jerked away. “Don’t. Just… don’t talk to me right now.”

And with that, she walked away, tears blurring her vision again.

For days, she avoided them both. Isaich tried to approach her once after school, but she walked past him without a word. Brooke texted her nonstop — long apologies, excuses, explanations — but Bethany didn’t respond.

Then, one night, she got a message that made her stop.

Brooke: “I’m sorry, Beth. I ended things with Isaich. You were right — I crossed a line. Can we please talk?”

Bethany stared at her phone for a long time. Finally, she typed back:

Bethany: “Meet me at the park tomorrow. 5 PM.”

The next evening, the park was quiet. The wind rustled the leaves, and the sky was streaked with orange and pink. Brooke stood by the fountain, looking nervous, clutching her phone.

When Bethany walked up, neither of them spoke for a moment.

Finally, Brooke said, “You were my best friend. I should’ve protected that. I don’t even know why I did what I did. I think I just liked the attention — and I didn’t think about how much it would hurt you until it was too late.”

Bethany’s eyes filled again, but her voice stayed calm. “I wanted to be happy for you, Brooke. I really did. But I can’t pretend it didn’t break me.”

Brooke nodded, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I know. And I’ll do whatever it takes to make it right.”

There was a long silence between them, broken only by the sound of the fountain.

Finally, Bethany said, “I don’t know if we’ll ever be like we were. But I’m not going to hate you forever.”

Brooke’s lip trembled. “Does that mean we’re… okay?”

Bethany gave a sad smile. “It means we’re trying.”

They hugged — a hesitant, shaky hug — the kind that holds both forgiveness and pain.

Epilogue:

Weeks later, Bethany sat in the same cafeteria, this time with Lila. Across the room, Brooke sat with another group, and Isaich was nowhere to be seen.

Bethany glanced at her phone — a message from Brooke popped up:

“Hey. Thinking of you. Hope you’re okay today ❤️”

She smiled faintly. Maybe things would never be the same, but maybe that was okay.

Sometimes, losing what you thought you wanted most teaches you what you really need: self-respect, strength, and the courage to move forward.

And as she looked around at the laughter and noise, Bethany finally felt at peace.
